Events

YES PLEASE – I would love to visit!

I’m available to speak at schools, libraries, festivals and other events (virtual or in-real-life) and I have experience of running school workshops, organising Festival events and judging book competitions.

My MG books, including ‘The House on the Edge’, are perfect for 9-12 year olds and I can tailor workshops to suit different ages and abilities across primary and secondary.

VIRTUAL EVENTS (Skype or Zoom)

‘Meet the Author’ 30mins: £60

Short introduction to ‘The House on the Edge’, its inspiration and key themes, with an interactive Q&A.

‘Meet the Author + activity’ 45mins: £85

Short introduction to ‘The House on the Edge’, its inspiration and key themes, with an interactive Q&A. Plus additional short themed activity.

REAL-LIFE EVENTS

I have some themed creative writing workshops for ‘The House on the Edge’ that can also be used to support cross-curriculum objectives. Alternatively, I’m very happy to discuss a bespoke event.

POP!

Use People, Objects and Place (POP!) to design a story. This can be set-up as an outdoor activity with an optional treasure hunt for objects.

HISTORY DETECTIVES (History)

A story-making workshop connecting the past with the present through historical objects, pictures and family trees.

WRITE YOUR OWN CLIFFHANGER

‘The House on the Edge’ is set on a cliff and this workshop focuses on the power of the cliffhanger! Learn how to create compelling twists and turns and create spine-tingling ideas!

THE LANDSCAPE OF A STORY (Geography)

Drawing from the book’s setting (coastal erosion and storms), this workshop examines the role of the weather, geology and important environmental messages within a story.

LOOK THROUGH THE EMPATHY TELESCOPE (PHSE)

Using the telescope in ‘The House of Edge’ and exploring the characters’ problems, this workshop looks at how we can put ourselves in the shoes of others to develop strong characters and empathy.

I follow the Society of Authors’ recommended fees, but do talk to me if you are from a school with higher levels of deprivation and we can work something out to suit. I’m also happy to discuss a reduction if you’re making an order of books for the visit through a local or independent bookshop or a site that supports bookshops.
